Creating a relaxing and cozy primary bedroom doesn’t always mean taking on a massive DIY project or buying everything new. Sometimes, it’s about working with what you already have and making small, impactful updates to transform the space.

That’s exactly what I did with my bedroom—a simple refresh that will hold me over until I’m ready to tackle a full-blown project.

Here’s how I updated my bedroom to feel light, airy, and put-together without breaking the bank.

My Inspiration

To be honest, I didn’t have a clear vision in mind when I started this refresh. My main goal was to create a relaxing space that felt nicely decorated and cohesive until I’m ready to dive into a more detailed DIY project in the room.

I wanted to keep the design light and airy, using accessories to bring in the green and blue tones my readers know I love. The biggest challenge? Doing all of this without a full overhaul of the room.

The Design Process

When planning the refresh, my priorities were comfort and style. I wanted the room to feel cozy and inviting, with subtle hints of color to brighten up the space.

Since I wasn’t making any structural changes, I focused on soft furnishings and decor to achieve the look I had in mind.

Adding touches of greens and blues gave the room a serene vibe, and I worked with what I already owned to keep the project budget-friendly.

What I Used

All the furniture in the room was already there—I didn’t buy any new pieces. Instead, I focused on updating the space with new bedding and a few key accessories:

Bedding: I layered in beautiful pieces from Quince and Amazon (both of which I have affiliate links for).
Mirrors: These were a budget-friendly find from Walmart that added a touch of elegance.
Artwork: I picked up some lovely pieces from HomeGoods to tie the look together.

By using what I had and only purchasing a few affordable items, I kept the refresh simple and cost-effective.

No DIY This Time

While I love a good DIY, this refresh didn’t include any hands-on projects. Sometimes it’s okay to keep things simple and focus on decorating rather than taking on larger tasks. Without any major challenges, the process was smooth and enjoyable, which is exactly what I needed.

The Final Result

The result is a bedroom that feels cozy, stylish, and well-decorated for now. It’s a comfortable space that meets my needs and makes me smile every time I walk in. While I know I’ll eventually take on a bigger project in this room, this refresh has given me a beautiful and functional space to enjoy in the meantime.

Takeaways for Your Home

If you’re looking to refresh a space in your home without spending a fortune or diving into a full remodel, here are some tips I’ve learned:

Shop Your Home: Rearranging and reimagining items you already own is a great way to breathe new life into a space.
Focus on Small Updates: Swapping out bedding, adding accessories, or changing artwork can make a big impact.
Save the Big Projects for Later: When you’re not ready to take on a full renovation, small updates can hold you over while keeping the space functional and beautiful.
